Be Impossible to Ignore! Easy Hack to Get Clients
How to use video messages to reach out to clients
Cold outreach is a core part of marketing and business development.
If you are a marketer or copywriter, you’ll need to contact potential clients who may benefit from your services. You get rejected most of the time. But that is part of growth.
Most outreach is useless. Business owners get pitched by potential vendors every day. They ignore most of the outreach messages.
The problem is most of the messages are neither relevant nor different. The worst is the automated messages which can be sent to thousands of people.
If you can not prove to your clients that you have taken the time to know them, why would they take the time to know you?
A video message is a short video you send to a prospective client, demonstrating the value you can provide by making suggestions about their business.
The objective is to secure a follow-up call or in-person meeting.
How to pick targets for your outreach:
The first piece of advice is not to niche down, especially for beginners. Beginners have to be open to all opportunities.
You have to ask yourself what you are interested in.
Then you have to search in Google for the businesses you are interested in. You can search for ‘Gyms in near me‘ or ‘Event management businesses near me‘.
What resources do you need to make video messaging a success:
As a resource, you need a video software. You can pick between loom, zight or OBS.
My recommendation is loom as this is easy to use and free.
It doesn’t matter what software you use. Any video you can send is better than just a message or email.
Find out the decision-makers:
You have to find out the decision makers of the business you want to reach out to.
The decision-makers will be the Co-founder, CEO, or CMOs of the businesses who decide where the money goes.
You can find these people on the “About Us” page on the company website. You can also find them on the LinkedIn page of the company.
When it comes to decision-makers, the most important thing is simply getting in front of them. A LinkedIn/social media profile is enough. And if you can find their email, great.
And if you can’t find anyone? Well, you can always continue with your video message and simply address the company generally. This can work. It just makes it harder to grab attention.
Work on the attention grabbers:
The attention grabbers set you apart from everyone else.
For me to open your message & watch your video in the first place, you need to cut through everything else vying for my attention.
Most cold outreach is trash.
You will only stand out by grabbing the attention of the decision-makers.
Show them something that they care about & that couldn’t have been automated.
You can mention an event/podcast/stream your decision-maker just appeared on.
Or Bring up one of their passions (sports or other hobbies).
Simply show you’ve researched them and their company.
The value you can add:
If you got the decision-makers and grabbed their attention to open your email, you have done 50% of the job.
Now the main task is to sell them your value proposition.
What can you offer the business? What do you know how to do? What do they specialize in and already care about?
What are they NOT doing that you can make a good case for?
Ideally, you’ll already know what you want to focus on. You need to start the conversation and see where it goes.
Highlights of the video message:
This works in conjunction with the previous point.
Identify what parts of their business you can improve. Say what you can do to improve it.
When you come to film your message, try to highlight at least 2 or 3 things you could improve for them.
That means you need to be able to give them at least a couple of pieces of advice.
Don’t overthink this. Just use your marketing or business knowledge.
Conclusion:
A video message may sound like a lot of time investment to get a client.
The alternative is to send a generic message to thousands of people and get ignored.
The more specific a message or email is, the more chance it has to be well accepted.
A well-researched video message makes the receiver feel important and valued and compels them to respond.
I have seen people who used this method and got a high response and conversion rate.
Try this method and you will be surprised with its efficacy.
