Copywriter to Marketer: Four Key Skills to Learn to Sell Yourself Better

The transition is easy and the reward is massive

We are copywriters trying to make a living.

But most businesses don’t know what copywriting is.

They know what marketing and sales is. And they all need marketers to sell their products.

If we gain marketing skills, we can label ourselves as marketing consultants.

We can cast a wider net and get more businesses who need not just copywriting, but marketing as well.

So what skills can we learn to become marketers?

Funnel Software:

Customers enter a business through a funnel.

Then they are ascended upwards in terms of product or service offering.

So all businesses need funnel software.

If you are a copywriter with funnel software skills, suddenly you become more valuable.

Funnel software is straightforward to learn, but can give you a massive head start as a marketer.

All it takes is a few hours of YouTube video tutorials.

And then a couple of hours of playing around in a free funnel software like Hubspot can boost your confidence.

Email Automation:

Many businesses don’t utilize email marketing very well, let alone email automation.

Email marketing is one of the cheapest and most effective marketing channels.

If you are hired as a copywriter in a business and can handle email marketing and automation, they will be very impressed and willing to pay more for your services.

Offer Building:

Most businesses sell products, not offers.

However, the offer is actually what attracts the customers, not the products.

If you can master offer building and improve a business’s revenue in addition to copywriting, they will try to keep you at all costs.

Google Analytics:

Many businesses don’t know how to track their performances and marketing KPIs.

Google Analytics is key to tracking and analyzing all marketing KPIs.

If you know how to connect all of their backend products to Google Analytics and come up with easy-to-use dashboards to track promo performance, they will embrace you as their marketing all-rounder.

Again YouTube will be handy to learn this.

Conclusion

Rather than having only one skill, you can become multi-skilled and provide services in multiple areas.

You can be the go-to person for a business and charge hefty fees and retainers for your work.

It is not hard, but the effort is necessary to get some or all of these skills into your arsenal.

You just need to stop putting yourself into one box and start thinking laterally.
