Are You Different or Relevant? How to Stand Out in a Crowded Market

How you can stop the scroll and get the customer to see your ad

How can you make sure your advertisement gets maximum view?

You have to be different from the rest of the crowd to gain attention. Or you have to be relevant to the customer’s needs.

Different:

Being different means having a slogan or headline different from the rest of the crowd.

Let’s think of the fitness industry as an example. Every fitness product or program talks about a ripped or shredded body. You can talk about being transformed, more confident, or conquering childhood fears.

Or you can think about the make-up industry. Most make-up brands talk about being beautiful or stunning. You can talk about self-care or expressing your true self.

You must talk to the innate desires of the person. This makes the headline more disruptive and eye-catching.

Relevant:

Relevance to the target customers’ beliefs and worldviews is another way to make your advertisement attractive.

You must talk to the customers where they are, not where you want them to be.

If you are targeting a conservative audience, talk to them on their terms. If you are talking to gym junkies, talk to them like a gym goer. Say how you lost weight or added muscle.

If you are talking to climate activists, say how you are worried about the world becoming uninhabitable.

Then you can transition to your product and start talking about its benefits.

Conclusion:

The customers have an ever-decreasing attention span. People are busy with their lives and challenges. If something doesn’t make sense in five seconds, they scroll to the next item.

It is a challenge that you must enjoy to succeed as a marketer.
