4 Secret Problems Clients Face That Marketers Can Help With
Don't get boxed into a niche; become a business expert
Business owners have a lot on their plates. They need to think of business strategy, product lines, operations, finance, people, etc.
With all these problems come the stress, the mental struggles, the negative thinking, and the anxiety. They don’t have the headspace to babysit people or coordinate their activities.
As a marketer, if you don’t just limit yourself to your specific task and take some of the burden off your clients, they will appreciate that a lot. They will have a lot less to worry about.
So, where can we add value to clients as marketers and make ourselves more valuable?
Strategy
Thinking is hard work. That’s why people work on autopilot. We love to keep ourselves busy with tasks and not think about long-term consequences.
You can perform your marketing tasks and get paid by your clients. Or you can think about the broader picture and see how your tasks impact the client’s business.
You can provide input to the client to fine-tune their business and marketing strategy. You are effectively taking work off their plates. You are not a one-trick pony who only thinks about your niche.
People
One of the biggest problems that smaller businesses face is a lack of coordination between people or departments. People usually love to live within their work silo and don’t reach out to other departments to coordinate their work.
And managing people is difficult. People often don’t work well together. You have to hold their hand, resolve their disputes, and get them to focus on the broader business goal.
If you complete your tasks and push them over the fence to the next person, you will be another dot on the map. However, if you start to engage other staff to get the project to the finish line, that will change the quality of your game.
If you coordinate and manage tasks and people, you free up the client to think about more valuable stuff.
Design
When I say design, I don't mean fancy designs. You can use Canva to add a lot of design to your marketing work.
This can be designing the email templates or the landing page. This can also be a simple logo design. You don’t need any fancy skills or graphic design expertise.
You can watch a couple of Canva videos on YouTube, and you are good to go. You need a little effort only.
Software
Businesses use software that requires extra overheads to manage. If you come in as a freelance marketer and say you can manage that software, you become more valuable and indispensable.
This will open doors to monthly retainers and more referrals. You can get up to speed with funnel, analytics, or email automation software.
Get an intermediate level skill in any of the above and combine it with your marketing or copywriting skills. You will get massive results for yourself and your clients.
Conclusion
We often forget to put ourselves in other people’s shoes. We hear what people say and do not see what they are not saying.
If you put a little bit of effort into helping your clients towards their broader business goals, you will see a dramatic increase in your value to them.
